Blocs Wave: Record Music Live App Reviews

Great app.

I’ve tried several DAWs and beat makers on iPad, and this has to be one of the best for those who want to be inspired. While it’s not Cubasis or Garageband, it’s addictive and fun, along the lines of Reason and its REX loops. The included loop library has some great diversity, and once you start combining those with your own imported loops, you’ll quickly have the beginnings of several projects. Exporting audio stems is quick and easy, and then you can import them into the DAW of your choice for finishing/mixing, etc. Highly recommended!

METRONOME

GUYS LOVE THE APP REAL GOOD USE OF MY MONEY BUT PLEASE COULD YOU ADD A METRONOME

Excellent app

With the addition of slicing, and now sections, this app is turning into something special. Blocs Wave, Circuit (and the new components), not to mention Launchpad - Novation is just kicking butt

A Great Start, Intuitive Looper (June 16)

Just picked up Blocs Wave 6.1, now that Sections have been added. Love the interface, very intuitive and easy to play with few distractions. Makes it a great "back up band" app while doing my own soloing on other apps or synths (and it plays with Launchpad app very nicely). Ive purchased about half of the Packs and find them to be pretty unique and they sound great, even when run through a mixer alongside of my hardware. Definitely want to see more and more variety, like how Launchpad has done it. More Retro, more Ambient please. In some ways, Wave is even better in this regard with some great straight "rock and roll" packs as opposed to "yet another EDM" pack. Plenty of good suggestions in the reviews here, though Id hate to see anything added that makes the very nice UI more complicated. I personally would like to be able to assign different keys to different Sections, and have a bigger Key wheel. MIDI sync would be welcome (though the Ableton Link works well for apps) as would actual in-app documentation. Ill likely come back and rate it "5" as it becomes a little more full featured, as I do think its a great value for me and how I use it.

it finally records out to MP3 AAC yay!

recording should be more adaptive, if this is supposed to be more than a toy. let us use any audio out, even Bluetooth, some of us dont mind the lag if were just listening.

The path to greatness

This app will only become smoother because of the hard work of the development team. Dont get me wrong, ITS SMOOTH, but I have a feeling a lot more magic is in store for the future.

So glad I found this

This is a great tool for music creation. It comes with some pretty useful sounds. You can also upload your own sounds and samples or record audio into the pads. You can create some interesting slice effects and drum fills using the slicer window. I think its brilliant.

Intuitive work flow

Amazing ... Why this doesnt replace Dropbox driven audio import ...I will never know.peace christo

Fantastic App!

I am a professional songwriter, recording engineer and music teacher, and Blocs Wave has been my go-to app for new ideas. This app designer is responsive, innovative & includes high quality loops in this app. It is so easy to use, my elementary school-aged students use it. It literally fits in the palm of our hands via iPhone. Each week I look forward to the high quality, reasonably priced sound packs offered. It would be great to be able to change the pitch of each individual slice, of course without affecting its tempo of each slice. Next, please allow users to move the sections to change the order of the sections easier; without having to erase one section and copy & paste when we want to reposition sections, (MusicMaker app has this feature and it works smoothly- to reposition sections). Give us more or unlimited amounts of sections to extend our ideas into songs. Lastly, please add more fx like filters, reverse & scratching. Thanks for listening & applying our suggestions in a simple, straight forward, user friendly interface. Blocs Wave Rocks! -April Reaux of AprilRox Studios, LLC

This is a keeper!

Mad selection of loops? Check. Irresistibly easy to use? Check. This is what you are looking for. Trust me.

Wonderful tool for any musician

I havent been using this app for very long until recently and downloading a few packs but once you mess with it for a brief moment youll realize the potential if you couple this with other music production apps such as Medley, Launchpad and Machine the creative possibilities become quite vast and then importing it onto any DAW of choice really makes the creativity begin to take shape. Options are limitless. Use your mind, its the limit.

Navation "gets it"

Blocs does what it does extremely well. Its easy to get drawn in and both play around and get quality results. Novation has been doing great work and in this case theyve made big strides since the launch and looks like theyll continue doing so.

Highly reliable, versatile, pleasant interface

This app is a great way to organize ideas quickly. If you own a microphone for iOS this supports full functionality of my midside stereo condenser. It uses the direct monitoring better than the free app the mic came with Works great with any interface as well. The gui is very pleasant and friendly. If you cant play an instrument, or dont own an interface you can use their ideas. This comes loaded with some free sounds, which all are royalty free. The paid packs are high quality and great for writers block. Basic editing would be appreciated. Itd be nice to get some fade in out, normalize within the app. That way I dont have to import export and import again. Overall this has been my go to app recently. Thank you Dev team for maintaining a great application.

5 Stars! Awesome for new inspiration, recording and looping!!

Essential must-have app for getting new inspiration and to play All in sync with other apps like Gadget, iMachine 2, iMPC PRO, list goes on. This app will get you hooked and addicted all in a fun easy to understand UI!! Great developers too! Always listening and updating their apps. Highly recommend!

Thank you blocsXnovation

You are an example of what it means to be a quality development team on iOS. Thanks to the community of musicians, coders, testers, creative minds, and anyone else that helped shape this wonderful application. I do not regret in any way my two dollar a week subscription :D. I may not use the loops often, but they do inspire me. I hope it helped out the process of pushing out updates every other week. Recording into this is an absolute blast. If you use any sort of an iOS microphone, interface, instrument, synthesizer, or have a creative mind I would highly recommend this "App". I would recommend this to anyone. Cheers

Immature colaborative app, too soon Novation

Novation have been quite premature releasing BlocsWave to play with the rest of the band via Ableton link. BlocsWave is quite immature when it comes to collaboration with other apps and other networked instruments. BlocsWave is missing many collaborative features common in other Ableton Linked musical apps. Including: BlocsWave transport controls that do not acknowledge the beginning of a bar as the right place to start and the end of a bar as the appropriate place to stop the passages of music. In a similar vein, there is no way to return to the beginning of the musical passage, the play start point is wherever stop was pressed before which along with no bar smarts in the transport control contributes to almost unavoidable playing out of time in a collaborative band environment. Tempo is not all that is required here Novation. Timing within that tempo is equally as important, and Novation currently have not provided BlocsWave with any timing tools for collaborative playing. When using inter app audio to feed BlocsWave output to a mixer app to join other app audio, unlike other friendlier collaborative IAA apps, there is no other app icon within BlocsWave to shortcut between the two apps. It a longhand journey in a world where shortcut icons within sharing IAA apps is commonplace. Novation trumpeting Ableton link as a major upgrade is ringing hollow with very little supporting tools to actually play in time using BlocsWave. Another collaborative style, sharing music files between apps. Again Blocs Wave seems to be designed to stifle rather than promote. Wrapping a single wav file inside a zip file, what where they thinking? That zip format derails almost all quick sharing between apps. In a what-the moment as a user i just cannot understand why Novation have seemingly gone out of their way to prevent the fast transfer of a BlocsWave wav file into partner app Launchpad. Wrapped in a zip file on export, is not recognised BY THEIR OWN PARTNER APP ! BlocsWave is not there yet, not by a long shot. Novation already know how to do this, as their other app Launchpad has all the collaborative bells and whistles. Its like they forgot what they already knew!

Excellent

A creative person can do a lot with this app. Others will give negative reviews.

The most innovative music production app

Ive put off reviewing this app because I wanted to leave a detailed one. But after this last update i cant wait any longer. The app has increased my music production output by ten times! The developers implement user ideas, so the app keeps getting refinements and new features. The sample packs offered are a good value and are innovative in themselves.

It Just Keeps Getting Better

I really, truly love Blocs Wave. Blocs Wave has helped me through so many nights when the music just wasnt working. Every Thursday is like a little bit of Xmas for me, because every Thursday I can get a new Blocs Wave soundpack. This is the only app in my library that I own all of the IAP for, and I own a lot of music apps. Import samples, slice em up, add a simple beat if its right for the song, mix in some fx loops, maybe a nice little melody or two. Ive found it to be a pretty reliable way to get myself back into the right mood for musical creativity. Blocs Wave is also great for late night jams. We make a game of it, each person taking turns changing the song in some way. Its especially nice if you can get multiple iPads going around. So yeah, highly recommend.

Amazing App + Kickass Developers

Novation rules. These guys are active on forums, responsive to user requests and have created an app that opens up more possibilities with every release. Im not only super impressed but now a fan of everything novation. Keep it up guys!
